Response and Assistance Program

Program History

Since 1998, the Nanaimo Region John Howard Society has offered a Community Assistance Program to individuals who have had some criminal involvement, either historically or at present. The Response and Assistance Program (RAP) was created in May of 2007. The Program was initiated to address the immediate need of individuals who have been set back financially, mentally and or emotionally.

Program Purpose

The following are a variety of services RAP provides:

Pardon/Waiver Application Assistance

Individuals who have a criminal record have the option of applying for a pardon three to five years after the completion of sentence. Summary Convictions yield a three-year waiting period and an Indictable offence yield a five-year waiting period after the completion of sentence; this includes the payment of fines and restitution. Canadians with a criminal record will need a U.S waiver to cross the border.
